What happened to my dog?
/As many of you know, I have a 5lb white chihuhua whom I call DABA or "my darlin". Daba and I were involved in a car accident recently. We were on our way home after having lunch with the family when all of a sudden out of nowhere BAM! A car from behind me us crashed into us hard! My car was at a dead stop at a stop light, so you can imagine the impact. The impact was so explosive my car ended up hitting the car in front of us. Who was in front of us, you ask? My brother and mom. I felt SO bad. But I had no control. I was so confused as to what just happened. It took me a minute to realize someone slammed into me. I got out of the car and asked the driver what had happened? He meant to go to the right turning lane but then a car was coming and he had to change his mind and come back into our lane. The gentleman was apologetic and asked if everyone was okay. I went back to my car to get my Daba and then I began to ball my eyes out and cry histerically.
There was blood coming from his eye. I was SO upset. The police and animal rescue came on the scene to make sure we were all okay. Major kudos to Officer D. Portillo of Loudoun County Animal Services for coming out and checking out my darlin. Once my car got towed and I got home that's when it hit me how grateful I was to be alive...how grateful I was that all of us were safe and wearing our seatbelts. When they say things can be a lot worse, they really can be. I could've been all alone. One of us could've gotten seriously hurt. I could've gone off at the driver and attacked him for what happened to Daba. It's a good thing I didn't! Even though I was upset that he was hurt, I also recognized that it was an accident.
There are things we can control and things we can't control in life. What will you choose to control? How will you react when things don't go as "planned" or the way you expect? Will you react positively or will you react negatively? What kind of attitude are you going to choose to have? Your behavior and your attitude is controlled by you.
What does this have to do with fitness and nutrition? Everything! Your attitude is the most important thing to being successful with your goals. If you choose to have a positive attitude, you will have positive outcomes. If you choose to have a negative attitude, you will have negative outcomes. That's how it works. Celebrate small successes. At TrueFN we make it a point to preach positivity and applaud our clients for their hard work! A 1lb PR is still a 1lb PR. Even when there are setbacks and you have to go back, remember, it can always be a lot worse and you still have the opportunity to move forward.
I hit my all time LIFE PR the morning of the car accident. I pulled 285lbs on my Deadlift and then got into a car accident, which will mean I will probably need PT and a chiropractor, drive an embarassing small red rental car for a while, AND take a halt or modify my training program. Is that the end of the world? No. I'll recover and push forward, because that's what we do in life.
